Today I will be shopping with a client at DCOTA. If we look at rugs we will both want to see Wool. She , like me is a “Greenie” , and wants to have a healthy indoor air quality , as well as an Eco -Friendly product on her floors. Naturally , (pun Intended) , we will choose Wool.
Wool is a natural fiber that can be manufactured in a way that will end up with a rug or carpet that will not off-gas , or emit those nasty V.O.Cs. You smell those when you install synthetic carpet , that nasty odors that lingers in the air to give you a hint about what you just did to your lungs. Carpet off-gassing is the leading cause of Sick Building Syndrome.
Besides the clean air quality aspect of Wool , it is also naturally fire resistant , durable , stain resistant , easy to clean , as well as warm and beautiful. Wool does work well in our Florida environment and is surprisingly mold and mildew resistant as well.
New Zealand Wool is globally known as the highest quality of Wool on the market. The rugs I have recently received samples of are beyond soft , of a high pile , but still very resilient. The color palettes have been muted and neutral , although Wool can be manufactured in any design and color combination imaginable.
Best Wool Carpets of the Netherlands came out with a process they are using called Laneve , where the principle fiber Erutan is 100 per cent natural , totally recyclable , and Eco-Friendly. The chemical free scouring process they employ , uses 90 per cent less energy than othe technologies. They have created a process to blend the woolen fibers to linen without the use of synthetic materials or glue. New process , but Old School concepts.
